This wine has an attractive shiny light ruby colour. It is both refined and very frank on the nose and palate. It opens to aromas of red fruits. Its silky tannins support the balance of a wine, such that it can be kept for some time (5 to 7 years) while remaining pleasant in its youth.

Maison Chanzy is a highly respected Burgundian producer, their wines are a classical demonstration of premium vineyard sites in Côte Chalonnaise, Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits.

Their range has been carefully engineered by winemaker Max Blondelle, whose primary task is to create wines that eloquently communicate their respective terroir, whilst remaining hands-off in his approach. As such, Chanzy are one of the few Burgundy producers to achieve Haute Valeur Environnementale level 3; the most highly regarded certification for agriculture in France.

Pinot noir is the heritage of Red Burgundy. The pinot noir grape was born in Burgundy and has carried the name since 1375. Pinot noir is the hereditary source to all of the great red wines from Burgundy vineyards. Pinot noir is jealously desired, but it is fragile and it requires very careful care during its vegetative period.

The 'Clos de Bellecroix' site borders Chagny and faces gently north meaning it’s almost always the last vineyard to be picked. Classic violet and cherry nose. Tightly knit structure, with a seductive mix of crunchy red and black fruits and a touch of balsamic. Lots of aging potential. Drink 2024 to 2030

Medium-bodied and fragrant with a supple, appealing texture. Fresh and vibrant now, this will soon develop savoury complexity as it ages and should continue to do so gracefully for 5-10+ years. This is a stand out red Burgundy from the 2020 selection, with great structure and balance.

This large premier cru site (37ha) has many different micro terroirs and this cuvee is taken from 4 different parcels. 40% of the wine is whole bunch fermented, and 15% is fermented in new oak; the resulting wine is packed with ripe wild raspberry and damson fruit.

Beautiful dark red colour, with purple reflections. The bouquet is very expressive with notes of sour cherry, liquorice and chalky notes. It is a wine with finesse and a very long finish.

One of the first Premier Crus to be designated as such in 1943, ‘Clos Voyens’ is a 1ha south-west facing vineyard at the top of a hill that borders a small wood. Around 40-50% whole bunch fermentation this year and to great effect. A perfumed nose, with notes of wet stone. The perfect balance of sweet mulberry, red cherry and strawberry fruit, with some herbal (Eucalyptus and Pine) undertones, and a lovely lifted finish. This is beautifully balanced and delicious, and will be even more so in 5 - 8 years’ time.
