Pet Nat

Pet Nat, short for Pétillant Naturel, is a sparkling wine made by bottling still fermenting juice allowing it to finish its fermentation in bottle.

Unlike Champagne or other sparkling wines there isn't a second fermentation started by adding sugar and yeast. It is a simpler process and is made to be light and refreshing. It is made to be drunk young as an aperitif or on a picnic and for me it takes the place of a cider or light beer - goes with the same kinds of foods. When introducing people to it in the shop I sometimes refer to it as a grape cider though of course it is fully a wine.

Francesco Anne Santi's family has been farming for generations, but she decided to turn her stables into a wine cellar and a new business was started.

This artisanal wine is made from Sangiovese and Aleatico grapes sourced from Francesco’s land in the Valnerina Valley in Umbria, refermented in the bottle in a semi-sparkling rose style. Uses the award winning Mekano closure using reclaimed plastic, for this colourful and innovative packaging.
Slightly cloudy with an orangey-pink hue. A delicate spritz with fine well-lasting bubbles for a Pet Nat. Flavours of green apple, white peach, unripe melon give the mouth a blast of freshness whilst a touch of biscuit character adds complexity. Much cleaner and less funky than you would expect from a Pet Nat.

Cuvee Kurt is a blend of 8 different varieties. Riesling, Weissburgunder, Chardonnay, Kerner, Muskateller, Scheurebe , Grauburgunder and Silvaner … some of the grapes are fermented as an orange wine. Dennis Wolf took over the family farm and winery in 2018 and immediately transitioned to Biodynmic farming practices.
